You know that feeling you get when you help someone?  It’s great, isn’t it?   Well, just imagine how it feels to have potentially helped a huge number more, in fact up to 500,000!

That’s why I am feeling so happy at the moment, because this week, the 283 photographs, which I have uploaded to a photography website called Unsplash, have been downloaded more than 500,000 times.

And by reading this brief article, what I have to say, could potentially help you, because, as human beings, images, have a great influence on our lives, so please let me explain.

For those who know me, I love paying it forward and helping other people, either by sharing my knowledge and experience of developing high-performance teamwork, when facilitating team-building or delivering a keynote presentation at a conference.

So, it’s been great to also help many people, through photography, my passion outside of work. My Top 20, have been downloaded over 300,000 times.  Check them out here.

Fun Facts About The Number 500,000

If each download was a Lego piece, it would help make the world’s largest Lego tower, which has about 500,000 bricks in it and was built in Tel Aviv.

If each download represented a person, they would fill the following football stadia: Wembley, Old Trafford, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Emirates Stadium, London Stadium, Etihad Stadium, Anfield, Vitality Stadium (Bournemouth, where I live) and Home Park (Plymouth, my city of birth) and there would still be 15,000 left over!!

500,000 people, with their arms outstretched would comfortably stretch from London to Edinburgh.

500,000 miles, would almost get you to the moon and back!

So, What Is Unsplash And How Could It Help You?

Well, in simple terms, Unsplash is a photography website, where people from all over the world, share their photos, so that other people can freely download and use those images, provided that they are not sold commercially.  Each photo submitted is approved, to ensure that the quality remains high.

What Do People Use Them For?

Well, me for one, I first became aware of Unsplash in November 2017, when building my website.  I was in need of some images to bring my website to life and stumbled across Unsplash.  Do have a look at some of the great images from other photographers, which I have used and also credited. https://ngagementworks.com

I also use them for free team-building articles and team-building exercises, that I publish, which you can check out here https://ngagementworks.com/articles/

And finally, I use them for slides I create when I am delivering a keynote conference speech, at various conferences around the world, that I’m invited to speak at.

What Do Other People Use The Images For?

I have been amazed at how some of my images have been used, since I uploaded my first one in November 2017.  Google image search enables me to see where my images have been used and they’ve been used literally all over the world.  Here’s just a few examples.

One of my clients, Nine Feet Tall, based in Bath, UK,  who are multi-award winning experts in business transformation, recently refreshed their website and used a number of my images.

I’ve had an image used for the front cover of a book of poems, and that same image has been used on the cover of a best-selling single and also for a set of learning cards, which the company who created them sent me a copy of and I now use as part of my team-building workshops.

I’ve had images that now hang in the offices of solicitors in New York and another used to promote conferences. Las Vegas Sign

Do You Have To Credit Photographers?

This is not mandatory, however, Unsplash make it easy for you to do so, as they have links and suggested wording that you can copy, when you download an image.

Do I Make Any Money From It?

Simply, no, you do not get paid for uploading your images onto Unsplash, however, personally, I get a huge amount of pleasure, knowing that my images are being useful to others and on occasions, I have received a thank you gift.

So, if you have a need for a quality image, that you can use for free, I’d recommend heading over to Unsplash.

I’ve you haven’t done so already, do have a look at my Top 20 images, you may find some that would be useful to you.
